Protection of Geographical Indications for Jepara Furniture
The advocacy team of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) of Jepara Regency noted a violation of foreign furniture entrepreneurs in Jepara Regency. This was revealed in the Jepara Furniture industry workshop at RM. Maribu, Thursday (11/7). The meeting was attended by the head of Jepara Regency Industry and Trade Office, Ratib Zaini, Wiradadi Suprayogo from the central HIMKI DPP, and Andang Wahyu Triyanto, chairman of the Jepara Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This violation of foreign businessmen or foreign investment (PMA) is very detrimental to local furniture entrepreneurs. With violations of business licenses as well as violations of export products exported abroad, including exporting furniture materials such as teak and rivet wood, which are prohibited by regulations to be exported in raw or non-processed materials.

The Chairperson of HIMKI Jepara, Masykur Zaenuri, gave a summons to the authorities to be immediately followed up by the authorities. Currently HIMKI Jepara Regency houses two major associations, namely the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (Asmindo) and the Indonesian Rattan Furniture and Craft Association (AMKRI).
The Head of the Department of Industry and Trade of Jepara, Ratib Zaini, invited furniture industry players to increase efforts to attract investors, domestic and foreign so that they could boost the economy of the community.

Zaini explained that Jepara carving was the biggest buffer for the economy of the community besides agriculture and trade. For this reason, the efforts of the regional government to preserve Jepara carving furniture that has been handed down for generations, through the right of geographical indication (IG) of Jepara carved furniture from the Director General of Intellectual Property (KI) as a regional asset must be immediately carried out.
